Every day, antivirus companies discover hundreds of new viruses. And among them there can be both quite harmless, and very dangerous computer programs that can leave you without a single penny in your bank account. And recently, such a virus on the Android system was detected by experts from Symantec. The uniqueness of the new virus is that it does not manifest itself until you decide to call the bank, and then redirects the call to scammers.
A virus called FakeBank, as already mentioned, infects smartphones on the operating system from Google and on devices running other systems has not yet been seen. According to experts, FakeBank is being introduced into smartphones, analyzing information about banking applications and after that it is doing transactions under the guise of financial organizations. Also in Symantec reported that at the moment they were able to detect 22 infected applications, which are distributed mainly through alternative application stores, as well as through social networks. The largest number of infected devices is registered in South Korea and the Asian region, but experts do not exclude that the virus can escape beyond this area.
As experts said, the new virus is the easiest to infect smartphones with versions of Android 5 and lower, because they are easier to obtain the permissions necessary to deceive the user. Well, the security recommendations in this case are quite standard: do not use the "left" application stores and install only the most recent and, most importantly, the official version of the operating system on your smartphone.
