The newspaper Vedomosti reports that the Russian search engine Sputnik, created in 2014, is going to be closed down or thoroughly rewritten, having adapted it for other tasks. According to the source of the newspaper, the national search engine has great potential, and the machine learning algorithms and resources used for its work can be used, for example, for the work of electronic government. But exactly as a search engine, "Sputnik" does not justify itself at all.
In April 2017, from the search engine to other sites, a little more than one hundred thousand conversions were made, while through Yandex, Google and others, billions of transitions are made every day. Despite the fact that Sputnik has existing contracts and support, the project so far only works in a minus, therefore, according to the interlocutor of Vedomosti, in the near future his fate will be decided by the management of Rostelecom. The situation should clear up in early June.

Recall that previously, Rostelecom closed its gaming service, through which for several years it distributed keys for digital copies of games from Steam and GOG. Apparently, restructuring their services and completely getting rid of unnecessary, the company thus tries to optimize costs, redistributing them to other, more important at the moment, directions.
