The opening of a large data center can not go unnoticed if this occurs in Moscow and St. Petersburg, but if this is just the beginning of a major project that is being implemented in Eastern Siberia, then this is even more interesting.
The world market of cloud technologies is at the stage of active growth and development. It is now difficult to imagine life without such technologies in almost all its spheres. They touched literally everyone. This can be a banal backup of selfies and photos with seals that we make on our smartphones. These can be serious tasks in the banking sector, which simply can not be interrupted or lost and must be accompanied by a maximum level of reliability and safety. And also it can be tasks of state importance. In the latter case, the reliability of data storage and transmission should be not just the maximum, but the beyond.

At the same time, do not forget that the amount of information processed annually doubles and by 2020 will be 40 trillion gigabytes. That is why the market for such services is actively developing. In Russia, large data centers (DPCs) that meet world standards of reliability exist only in the large cities of the European part of the country. But in the European part of the country the high cost of renting land and electricity. Namely, the cost of electricity is more than half of the cost of cloud processing of information.

EN + Group is the world's leading vertically integrated hydropower and aluminum producer. That is why EN + became the first Russian energy company that entered the market of commercial data centers using its own electricity. Using own electricity significantly reduces costs and improves the reliability of data centers. This is the main competitive advantage of this project.
In the end of May, the first module of the data center "Clouds of Siberia" was opened in Irkutsk. The center is really modular and is able to expand due to connection to similar remote centers, and also to be completed on-site not only in width, but also in height.

The main supplier of equipment was the Chinese company Huawei. The choice is not surprising, since it is Huawei at the moment is a recognized leader in telecommunications technology, and the equipment it produces is used in a variety of similar centers.

The choice of Irkutsk as the place of construction of the first module of the new data center was not accidental. According to Aleksandr Sgrebny, general director of the "Clouds of Siberia" data center, the cheapest electric power in the Irkutsk region and a fairly good climate regime, and thanks to Baikal, which operates as a natural air conditioner, even in the hottest days the temperature does not rise too high. These two factors significantly reduce the energy consumption that is required to cool the equipment.

The data center is located on the territory of the Novo-Irkutsk CHP plant, which ensures uninterrupted power supply and reliable protection, since in addition to the protection of the center itself, the entire territory of the power plant is under protection. In addition to power from the CHP, which is supplied underground and has a redundant line, there is also a backup power system that automatically starts the diesel generator for two seconds and exits at maximum power for four seconds. At the same time, the battery module is provided inside the module, which can save the module autonomy in case of an unforeseen situation for up to fifteen minutes.

Also all other systems are duplicated. For example, communication with the "outside world" has two independent lines, and cooling systems not only have a large power reserve, but are arranged in such a way that even if several components fail, the temperature inside the module does not rise to critical values, and it will normally function until the failure is eliminated.

Among the services that the data center will provide to customers, there will be virtual computing power and storage systems (IaaS), software as a service (SaaS) and disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS). At the same time, the level of reliability of the center corresponds to the international standard Tier 3, and all critical systems, as already mentioned earlier, are repeatedly duplicated.
The potential power of the first data center module at full load will be in the total capacity:
- 7560 virtual processors at a frequency of 2.3 GHz
- 30 TB of RAM
- 2475 TB of disk space, including: 315 TB SSD and 2160 TB HDD
At the moment the module is loaded only by 1/15 power.

As a result, it is easy to understand that the project is very promising and will undoubtedly prove significant not only in the regional market, but it can also become a link in the sphere of cloud technologies between the Asian countries and Russia, taking its place in the important direction of the West-East.
