According to the journal Nature Photonics , a group of scientists managed to make quantum teleportation over a distance of 30 kilometers, which is a world record in this area. With the help of quantum teleportation, information encoded in light particles was transmitted. The transfer was made instantly.


Of course, it's still too early to speak about the full teleportation of living objects or even inanimate objects, but nevertheless quantum teleportation has great prospects. It is implemented through fiber-optic networks and can bring to a new level the security and reliability of Internet connections. But there are also "pitfalls" in this technology: when transmitting information over long distances, independent light sources are needed. The problem is that a light beam from one source after passing several kilometers must remain indistinguishable with respect to a light beam from another source, which has been an insoluble problem until today.

To solve it, two research groups independently developed feedback and synchronization mechanisms for light signals. In one case, light with a wavelength characteristic of telecommunications was used, which significantly reduced the rate at which the photon signal loses intensity during its passage in the optical fiber. Another group went the other way: they used a light beam with a wavelength of 795 nanometers.

The results of two independent experiments have shown that quantum teleportation over long distances is possible and loss of information, as well as its distortion does not occur. Researchers believe that their work will create new technologies that will be able to improve the transmission of information encoded in elementary particles, which will bring us closer to creating a quantum Internet.
