Google introduced the Brillo operating system for the "Internet of Things"

Сундар Пичаи

Google intends to subvert all the devices of the "Internet of things" in your house. In this it should help the operating system Brillo. The new platform is designed to connect low-power devices, from the washing machine and ending with a trash can, into a single network with the support of existing technologies Google. This step is an expansion of the mobile operating system Android, which is managed by more than half of smartphones in the world, as well as a consequence of the recent purchase of the developer of smart thermostats Nest.

Brillo is designed for simple interconnection of devices. This gives Google a foothold for expanding the ecosystem of the connected devices. Part of this bridgehead is Weave, a competitor to Apple's HomeKit standard. Cross-platform language Weave is able to work independently of Brillo and allows smart devices to communicate with each other.

According to Google's vice president Sundar Pichai, Weave can be used together or separately from Brillo. The company also promises a voice interface that teaches home utensils (such as refrigerators) to understand a person's natural speech.

Internet of things (IoT) is considered as an environment where all devices ("things") are connected to the Network for more effective monitoring and monitoring. And this environment is not limited only to a smart home, it can cover the whole city.

For example, garbage cans will be able to notify the city services about the need to clean them from debris, and the home refrigerator - to monitor the quantity and assortment of products. Smart air conditioning, in turn, will be able to track the location of its owner and turn on when he goes home.

The research firm Gartner called the "Internet of Things" the most popular technology that is still developing.

Perhaps one of the biggest problems for IoT is the lack of compatible standards. Google is not the only company that is interested in creating an ecosystem for intelligent devices connected to the Internet.

After buying Smart Things, Samsung promised to combine all its products - from washing machines to smartphones - into a single network of "Internet of Things". The company plans to meet in five years.

IoT risks unleashing a war of formats where devices from different manufacturers can not "understand" each other, because they use different connections and software.

At the same time Samsung has already stated that its IoT-devices can openly connect to devices of other manufacturers.
