Mozilla integrates virtual reality into your browser.

Mozilla интегрирует виртуальную реальность в свой браузер

Last summer, Mozilla launched an experimental version of the Firefox Internet browser, which, among other things, supported the Oculus Rift headset. It seems that in their plans for the integration of virtual reality, the leadership of Mozilla wants to go even further.

Last week, it was announced that the WebVR API (Application Programming Interface) was integrated into the Firefox browser version for developers, thanks to which everyone can develop web applications that support virtual reality headsets. What prompted Mozilla to actively develop this area?

“Our organization is confident that virtual reality is a truly important technology. For us, the introduction of this technology into our products is a serious challenge. And we love these challenges, ”said company representative Josh Carpenter.

To make users feel comfortable when browsing web content using a VR headset, developers must achieve no delays between turning the user's head and moving the image on the headset displays. If engineers and developers fail to achieve minimal delays, or even their absence, then about any revolution in web surfing, according to Mozilla, just will not happen.

That is why the WebVR API was developed, which is designed to simplify communication between the browser and virtual reality headsets. Google has also begun development in this area, so that in the future we can expect one universal cross-browser platform for web application developers.

To date, Firefox only supports the Oculus Rift headset, however, for this you will have to install a small official plugin. Representatives of Mozilla argue that in the very near future they will introduce into the browser support for such affordable homemade headsets as Google's Cardboard and its analogues. It is also planned to integrate WebVR in the version of the browser Firefox for Linux and Android.

Of course, today the Internet is not the place where you can experience the most vivid VR impressions, but if large companies like Google and Mozilla continue to develop these technologies, in the future everything can change dramatically. And together with you we will keep abreast of and wait for the latest news on this subject.
