According to TheVerge resource, Richard Branson plans to deploy a network of small satellites that will provide low-cost Internet access in places where it is difficult to access the Network in other ways.
It is reported that Branson will cooperate with the American company Qualcomm, which is engaged in the development of the OneWeb project. By the way, it was previously assumed that Elon Musk would work with Qualcomm, however, as we see, Richard Branson was ahead of him.
With the help of Virgin Galactic, the OneWeb project will initially launch 648 satellites weighing 113 kilograms each. At the same time, LauncherOne rocket will be used to launch them into space, which is engaged in the delivery of cargo into Earth orbit.
Flying at an altitude of 1200 kilometers, satellites will have to provide a capacity of 8 gigabits per second. If this launch proves successful, Branson promised to increase the number of satellites to 2,400 units.
The launch of the first batch of satellites is scheduled for 2017.
