Physics student Jason Cole from the United States also asked such a question. But instead of running around the house with a router in his hands and measuring the signal level at each particular point, he approached the matter very seriously and used his knowledge of physics. Specially for solving the problem, Jason applied the Helmholtz equation for two-dimensional space, calculated and visualized the propagation of radio waves in his apartment. All this, of course, was done taking into account the reflecting and absorbing coefficients of the apartment walls.
As a result of the research, Jason immediately became aware of the so-called “dead zones” inside his apartment, in which the least strong Wi-Fi signal is observed. The ideal place was a point in the middle of the apartment. Placement of the router in the bedrooms and in the kitchen was fraught with the appearance of several “dead zones” practically without the Internet. But, of course, here the role is played by the layout of the dwelling and the number of doorways through which the radio signal goes straight to the adjacent premises without loss in the walls.
