The amount of Internet traffic in the world is increasing every day, and with it the number of cyber attacks also increases. The company Arbor Networks has published the results of a study, according to which the number of DDoS attacks in the first half of 2014 increased significantly compared to last year.
According to a published report, the number of attacks with a speed of 20 gigabits per second doubled compared with the same period of 2013. In addition, in the first half of 2014, more than 100 DDoS attacks were recorded at a speed of 100 gigabits per second.
The study was conducted thanks to anonymous information received from 300 Internet providers, according to which a report was made on the number of Internet threats on the network, computerworld.in reports.
As reported in the report, the most large-scale recorded attack was made on one Spanish company. The speed of DDoS-attacks was almost 155 gigabits per second and was implemented using a vulnerability in the implementation of the NTP protocol.
The Arbor Networks report says that about 15.1% of all Internet attacks were registered from South Korea, 14.8% from the USA and 6.7% from China.
It should be noted that in the second quarter of 2014, significantly less DDoS attacks were committed than at the beginning of the year. According to Arbor Networks, in the first quarter of this year, 47% more attacks were committed than in the second.
