These clothes will make us think twice about how much time we spend online. Researchers at New York University showed a smart dress that becomes transparent as its owner’s activity on the global network increases.
As the newspaper The Daily Mail writes, before exposing intimate places, parts of a smart dress begin to flicker. The authors of the project describe x.pose as a wearable device that exposes parts of its owner’s body each time it generates traffic. The more traffic, the faster the user is exposed.
The creators of x.pose say that their goal was to show how much time we spend online, without even realizing it.
In the real world, we can consciously control which parts of our bodies are available for public viewing. We cover intimate parts of the body with clothes. In the digital world, we practically do not control the information that passes through various services. We are naked and vulnerable, they explain.
The frame of the dress is made by 3D printing. Panels with varying transparency are controlled by a small computer built into the back of the dress. The computer constantly monitors user activity on the Web, recording the amount of data sent and received.
