The Internet of Things is a great idea, but without a major security breakthrough, it will not “take off.” This opinion was expressed by the head of the Information Innovation Development Department of the Agency for Advanced Research Projects (DARPA) Dan Kaufman, speaking at a conference in San Francisco on Thursday.

Kaufman said that the new system will use a homomorphic type of encryption. Typically, the encrypted data at some point in time requires decryption. This is necessary for the implementation of computational operations. In the case of homomorphic encryption, the information always remains in encrypted form, even when certain actions are performed on it. This complicates the work of hackers.
However, this model has one drawback, which is the low processing speed. Compared with the standard model, its efficiency is at least 10 orders of magnitude lower. But according to Kaufman, fivefold increase efficiency. And this is already talking about serious progress.
