Today in the official blog of the Kickstarter project, information appeared that the site was attacked by unknown hackers. The attack occurred on Wednesday night, February 12, and the attackers kidnapped some of the personal data of resource users.
Despite the fact that hackers did not manage to acquire information about credit cards of Kickstarter users, the logins and encrypted passwords of tens of thousands of site visitors fell into their hands. The management of the crowdfunding project urges all those who are registered on their website to change their passwords with new ones as soon as possible.
During the hacker attack, the users' e-mail addresses, their real home addresses and even phone numbers were also stolen. Employees of Kickstarter stated in the official appeal that the passwords of the old users of the site were encrypted using the SHA1 algorithm, while the passwords of new users were already encrypted using the Bcrypt algorithm, which is much more secure.
The Kickstarter executives terribly regret what happened and focuses attention on the fact that at the moment they are working with the best security specialists, as well as law enforcement agencies. Together, they will try to solve the crime and prevent similar incidents in the future.
