Twitter has returned to the owner of the account @N worth $ 50,000

In January, we wrote that Naoki Hiroshima lost his one-letter Twitter account @N, thanks to hackers who used social engineering and extortion techniques. Yesterday it became known that a month later Twitter restored the frozen account to the owner and restored it.

After @N was stolen, Hiroshima wrote a post explaining exactly how the theft took place. In the case of Hiroshima, hackers were able to get some credit card information from a PayPal account, and used it to reset GoDaddy account information. Then the thief changed several details of the domain belonging to Hiroshima so that he could not access his own website. When the thief could not reset the password to @N, he went into extortion, contacting Hiroshima and demanding that he reset the password in his Twitter account, or the site would suffer.

In the end, Hiroshima gave @N to the extortionist and notified Twitter, but the company said that an “investigation” had been conducted and that Hiroshima’s account would not return right now. @N became a private account and was later closed, but the access was restored again the other day.

“Order has been restored,” Hiroshima tweeted from an @N account on Tuesday afternoon. Twitter did not comment on the case.
