US and Russia hit the "list of enemies of the Internet"

США и Россия попали в список врагов интернета

The so-called “List of enemies of the Internet” is published annually by the Reporter Without Borders community of journalists, which upholds the right of the media to freedom of speech and lack of censorship on the Internet. In 2014, for the first time, such states as the USA and Russia were included in this list.

In addition to the United States and Russia, China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Iran, India and the United Kingdom are also on the list.

According to the journalists responsible for the creation of the list, the United States got into it, largely due to the fact that Edward Snowden shed light on numerous NSA offenses against Internet users. Such actions of the US authorities primarily threaten journalists, who often conduct personal investigations, and in the light of total surveillance by the NSA, none of them now can feel safe and cannot guarantee the safety of their sources and informants.

The “List of enemies of the Internet” was founded by three journalists: James Reisen, Barret Brown and Jacob Applebaum. All three journalists at one time suffered at the hands of the American government in one way or another. And Jacob Applebaum, by the way, is one of the creators of the popular on-site "onion routing system" Tor, which allows users to establish anonymous network connections that are protected from listening and tracking.

A complete list can be found on the official community website. Reporters Without Borders .
