Runa Capital invested 500 thousand dollars in the Wallarm security system

Wallarm

Venture Fund Runa Capital announced an investment in Wallarm, a solution for securing web applications and online businesses, which combines the functions of protection against hacker attacks and the search for vulnerabilities.

The received investment in the amount of 500 thousand dollars Wallarm plans to direct to further product development, attracting new partners and improving competitiveness among existing solutions such as Imperva and Qualys. In addition, Dmitry Halperin, investment director at Runa Capital, will join the company's board of directors.

The service team consists of professional programmers who previously helped prevent threats to many technology companies - Yandex, Mail.ru Group, Parallels, and others.

The main “trick” of Wallarm is the ability to “learn” and automatically optimize work. The system analyzes the behavior of not only applications, but also users, allowing you to identify unknown types of attacks. According to the company's specialists, the number of attacks for services with a daily audience of more than 100,000 unique users can reach up to a thousand, but not all of them carry a real threat. Wallarm distinguishes a real hacker attack from a non-dangerous one, thereby focusing attention on security issues.

In addition to supporting popular web platforms like Ruby, PHP, .NET, Perl, and others, it integrates with existing error tracking solutions. Thus, security control becomes automated throughout the entire software development time. The cost of a single Wallarm product starts from one thousand dollars a month.

The system is based on the NGINX web server, in which Runa Capital previously invested three million dollars.

Web applications are now used literally everywhere, the online economy has become a multi-billion dollar market, and the larger the online business, the more attention it attracts from hackers, says Dmitry Halperin, director of investment for Runa Capital. “It is for large web projects that traditional web application protection tools like WAF are ineffective. The sphere of Internet security poses many new problems that need to be solved, hence there is a great opportunity for growth. Wallarm has excellent positions to become a leader in this market. A great professional team has gathered in Wallarm, and I am pleased to join them on the board of directors.

Denis Anikin, Technical Director of Mail.ru Mail, also appreciated all the advantages of Wallarm.

This solution is primarily interesting because it gives control over the safety of products practically out of the box. Automatic training and adjustment for a specific project allows, in addition to classic vulnerabilities, to detect bugs that are specific to protected applications. Protection against hackers, against professional "white" hackers - this is an absolute must have for almost any Internet business.

Wallarm primarily focuses on e-commerce and online payment markets, SaaS / PaaS, and electronic media.

Runa Capital is a venture capital fund of 135 million dollars, which is engaged in the search for promising high-tech projects and invests in them. Among such companies are Nginx, Jelastic, Ecwid, LinguaLeo, Dnevnik.ru, Capptain and others.
