Moreover, many facts are known when, thanks to acquaintance on various websites, people not only met and communicated, but even created families. The researchers found out that social networking analysis algorithms are able to recognize which network users, for example, have a romantic relationship with Facebook, even if they are silent about it.
Such conclusions were obtained by a researcher from Cornell University, John Kleinberg, who worked with Facebook engineer Lars Backstrom, reports hitech.vesti.ru. They analyzed data from about 1.3 million Facebook users who were randomly selected at the age of 20 years with the specified marital status on their page on the network, having 50 to 2000 friends as friends. Thus, a considerable number of links was taken into account - about 379 million.
The degree of closeness in the studied relations of users was expressed by the variance, calculated on the basis of the number of common friends of close friends. That is, the greater the degree of integration of common friends among themselves, the higher the degree of dispersion.
The algorithm developed by observers is able to recognize a partner by the romance of a user from among his friends in 60 percent of cases. Given the fact that users with more than 50 friends were investigated, this figure is quite high.
The researchers concluded that relationships with a low level of dispersion are likely to be short-lived. The risk of discord in such relationships is 50 percent higher than in those where the level of dispersion is high. “A partner is a bridge for people between different clusters of the social environment,” says J. Kleinberg.
Thus, in order to make relations stronger, it will be necessary for a person, of course, to introduce a romantic partner into his social circle, thereby expanding the horizons of his social connections, which ultimately strengthens developing relations.
