There is something in our life that haunts us daily. Fifty years ago there was no such thing, but today it is an integral part of our life. When we sleep, we eat, we go, we go, we read, we listen, we look - in more than half of the cases we are dealing with cobwebs. The name of this web is the Internet. On August 7, 1991, CERN doomed humanity to a second life, presenting the World Wide Web to the world.
The history of the Internet is very interesting and confusing, like the story of the emergence of fire. Not that Prometheus of the twentieth century brought it to people, or on October 29, 1969 at 21:00 between the first two nodes of the ARPANET network 640 km away - at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) - first held a communication session. Charlie Klein was trying to make a remote connection from Los Angeles to a computer at Stanford. For the first time, it was possible to send only three symbols “LOG”, after which the network ceased to function. LOG should have been the word LOGIN (login command). The system was returned to working condition by 22:30, and the next attempt was successful. This date can be considered the birthday of the Internet.
It is possible, but not so simple.
In 1990, the predecessor of the Internet - the ARPANET network - ceased to exist, completely losing the competition NSFNet. In the same year, the first telephone connection to the Internet was recorded. It was only in 1991 that the World Wide Web became publicly available on the Internet, and in 1993, the famous web browser NCSA Mosaic appeared. The World Wide Web is gaining popularity.
“We can assume that there are two clearly distinguishable eras in the history of the Web: [before Mosaic browser] Mark Andriessen and after. It was the combination of the web protocol from Tim Berners-Lee, who provided the communication, and the browser (Mosaic) from Marc Andreessen, who provided a functionally perfect user interface that created the conditions for the observed explosion (interest in the Web). For the first 24 months that have elapsed after the appearance of Mosaic, Web browser passed the stage of complete ignorance (outside read the number of people within a small group of scientists and experts of only one little-known activity profile) to full and absolutely everywhere in the world, its prevalence », - A Brief History of Cyberspace , Mark Pesce, ZDNet, October 15, 1995.
Today is one of the memorable days, reminiscent of the turning points in the formation of our curse and blessing. Depends on which side to look.
