Hacker threatens to reveal the secrets of Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto

Someone broke into an email belonging to the creator of Bitcoin cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, BTC), Satoshi Nakamoto, whom no one has ever seen, and is ready to sell Nakamoto secrets for money. According to Wired, a hacker named Jeffrey argues that the information obtained can also be used to expose the identity of the creator of Bitcoin.

Jeffrey didn’t say so much, but when asked how he managed to take control of the address [email protected] , which Nakamoto used for correspondence, he replied: “This fool used the primary gmx under his full name and stored his nicknames under it. He is still alive. ”

In a post on Pastebin, Jeffrey announced that he would reveal Satoshi’s secrets if someone pays 25 Bitcoins - about $ 12,000. He also said that he possesses mail messages since 2011. A programmer (or a group of programmers) under the name Satoshi Nakamoto released software with open source, which runs the Bitcoin cryptocurrency, back in 2009. Since then, Bitcoin has grown to a global phenomenon, and people are trying to expose its creator. However, the true identity of Nakamoto is still a mystery.

Jeffrey did not say how he got access to Nakamoto's account, and did not answer many questions. Looks like he used the address on gmx.com to access other Nakamoto accounts. From one of them he left a message on Monday on the P2P Foundation website. Another spoiled the old page of Bitcoin developers on the site Sourceforge.

In his message to the P2P Foundation, Jeffrey announced that information about Nakamoto was already on the Web.

“Apparently, you didn’t set up your Tor correctly, and your IPs leaked from correspondence in 2010. You are not safe. You need to get out of where you are now, as quickly as possible, before they harm you. ”

However, Jeffrey did not provide any evidence to support his claims. And it is not clear what information he has about the creator of bitcoins.

Satoshi Nakamoto disappeared from view in 2010, so it is quite possible that in a few years GMX.com provider simply allowed someone to create a new address [email protected] . The provider itself is from the UK and does not answer questions.

More intriguing is the likelihood of an account being hacked. If this is true, Geoffrey could have access to the treasure trove of Satoshi's private letters. And this information can help expose the true essence of Nakamoto.

Michael Marquardt, head of administration at Bitcointalk.org, says that Jeffrey sent him an excerpt from a letter that he sent to Nakamoto back in March of this year. “Therefore, either the mail account was compromised back in March, or the attacker gained access to the old letters by compromising the account on his own.”

“I’m pretty sure that this is just a troll in search of lulz,” says Marquardt.
