Residents of China are unlikely to be able to maintain their anonymity in the expanses of the World Wide Web. The authorities of this country are doing everything possible so that any person can be easily calculated and, if necessary, found, using only his personal data from the Internet for searches.
Yesterday, the State Administration of China for Press, Cinema, Radio and Television published a resolution, which requires people who upload videos to the Internet to use their real first and last name. From now on, Chinese video services are allowed to host only those videos, the author of which confirmed his identity, by providing them with all the necessary documents.
The first alarming call to tighten the rules for publishing custom content in China was the government’s appeal to the largest Chinese Internet service providers Sina and Youku in 2012. It was then that the government decided that providers should be personally liable for any content that users publish in the Internet services they provide. In continuation of this social program in the same year, a series of instructive short films appeared on the Chinese Internet, telling about the rules of behavior on the World Wide Web, and also criticizing the vulgarity and cruelty so widely spread in the modern online community.
At the end of 2012, the Chinese authorities introduced the mandatory use of their real names when registering with the Chinese counterparts of Twitter - Sina Weibo and Tencent Weibo. Now it's time to introduce such restrictions in national video services.
Of course, under the guise of good intentions, the Chinese government is primarily trying to clear the Internet from numerous political videos criticizing the government and the standard of living in the country. Now, it will be much more difficult to upload such videos to the Web, and, to be honest, publishing provocative videos from now on will simply be life threatening.
