The leadership of the largest Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia announced the launch of a special project WikiVIP. The goal of this project is to create a library of voices of famous artists, politics, cinema and other spheres of our life, in order to preserve them for posterity.
The project is led by Wikipedia editors Andy Mabbett and Andrew Gray, who decided that the encyclopedia should not be limited solely to textual biographies of famous people, but may also contain short audio clips with their voices recorded. By the way, the name of the project has nothing to do with VIPs, as you might have thought from the very beginning. The VIP abbreviation in this case stands for Voice Intro Proect.
The first celebrities have already started recording and sending their voices to the encyclopedia editors. For example, the British actor Stephen Fry gladly responded to their proposal and already recorded the required audio clip from him, after which he reported on the new Wikipedia initiative in his Twitter account.

Many media companies also volunteered to help this project. For example, the British broadcaster BBC provided the Wikipedia editors with a huge archive of their audio recordings from various shows, TV shows, news bulletins, and so on. Such assistance is very important, since many famous people have already left this world and all that remains for the leaders of WikiVIP is to look for the surviving recordings of their votes.
Those who own their personal page in the Wikipedia Encyclopedia can contact the leaders of the WikiVIP project and get all the necessary instructions for recording the sound clip to be added to the sound archive. Well, I think that after decades, our descendants will be very interested to hear how the voice of this or that celebrity sounded, so the project seems very useful for the story.
