We have already heard about meteorological probes with 3G transmitters attached to them to provide third world countries with access to the Internet. It turns out that this is only the first stage in the implementation of Google’s global plans. Now the search giant has set itself the goal of high-speed Internet based on fiber-optic networks in every corner of the world.
This initiative was called Project Link. At the moment, the fiber optic network has already been conducted in the city of Kampala, which is the capital of Uganda. The network is about 100 kilometers of cable, which diverges in all directions from the city center.
“The network created under the Link project will allow local providers to connect a huge number of Ugandans to the Internet at incredibly high speed,” says a Google press release. .

Google hopes to open up new perspectives for Kampala residents, such as access to educational tools, information retrieval, as well as support for people who would like to implement personal startups using the Internet. Of course, the emergence of high-quality Internet in the third world countries should also have a positive effect on the state of the local economy and entrepreneurship. If the project gives positive results, soon high-speed Internet will be held in other cities.
Let us remind you that in June of this year, Google announced its plans to implement the Loon project, under which special balloons with 3G solar-powered transmitters would be launched into the sky over third world countries. Many experts considered this venture unrealistic. But the management of Google from their venture has not yet refused.
